Bouwinvest Real Estate Investors has committed € 75 million to French residential and healthcare real estate projects, as the Dutch institutional investor picks up the pace in its international investment expansion.

This investment fits within Bouwinvest’s strategy of targeting the senior and general residential market in France. Bouwinvest’s research indicates that the demand for rental properties is expected to grow substantially on the back of the country’s growing population and ageing demographic profile, particularly in the main metropolitan areas. Bouwinvest’s European investment portfolio is projected to grow from € 1.0 billion this year, to € 1.5 billion over the next two years, as part of a broader strategy to expand international AUM to € 4.3 billion by 2020. Total AUM is expected to grow to € 13 billion in 2020.

Bouwinvest has invested in the closed-end AEW RESIDYS fund, which holds both residential and senior housing assets in its French metropolitan portfolio. AEW aims to grow the current portfolio of around 600 homes (11 projects) to approximately 35 projects.
