For the second year running, Bouwinvest has received an A+ rating from the UN Principles of Responsible Investment in its recently published report, the highest possible score and better than the market average.

The world's leading advocate for responsible investment, PRI annually conducts research into the implementation of the investment policies of asset managers in order to stimulate responsible investments. Bouwinvest participates in all relevant sections and scores in line with the ‘listed real estate investments’ group which generate the highest ratings for the ‘real estate’ and ‘strategy and management’ modules.

“This is a great result. It proves that we are on track with our responsible investment strategy and the way in which we include ESG in our real estate investments. This recognition strengthens us in our conviction that we should continue on this path,” said Micha Reusen, Head of Sustainability & Innovation.

Responsible investment with the goal of creating a financial and societal return
Bouwinvest aims to generate a robust return on sustainable real estate investments for institutional investors and their participants. We invest for the long term and do this in a responsible manner by including environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria in all our investment decisions. This leads to both social and financial returns. In this way we create Real value for life.

That explains why Bouwinvest is a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) supported by the United Nations. The six principles for socially responsible investment of the UN are as follows:
1. We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
2. We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
3. We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
4. We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry.
5. We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles.
6. We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.

The long-term objective of Bouwinvest’s responsible investment policy is to create a Paris Proof real estate portfolio by 2045. Our short-term objective is to obtain 4 or 5 stars according to the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) rankings for at least 75% of the total portfolio, in line with our target to realise an above-average sustainability score.

About the PRI initiative
The PRI is the world's leading advocate for responsible investment. Established in 2005, the network aims to better understand the investment implications of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors and support its international signatories in integrating these factors into their investment and ownership decisions. Signatories contribute to the development of a more sustainable and transparent financial system and the continuous development of responsible investment. The PRI is an investor initiative in partnership with UNEP Finance Initiative and UN Global Compact. The UN PRI is completely independent. More information can be found at: www.unpri.org
