The World Trade Center in The Hague, owned by institutional real estate investment manager Bouwinvest’s Dutch Office Fund, has become the first multi-tenant building in the Netherlands to acquire a BREEAM sustainability certification. The building, combines offices with a hotel, apartments, restaurants, a supermarket, fitness facilities and an art gallery, and has evolved as a central meeting place for international and regional businesses. The certification is the result of a wider effort by Bouwinvest to optimise the sustainability track record of its funds.

The World Trade Center has acquired a double “excellent” rating in both BREEAM’s ‘asset’ and ‘management’ categories as per December 2016. To minimise its carbon footprint, the building has been equipped with thermal storage facilities and other energy saving measures. It was also constructed with sustainable building materials and the power supply is 100% sourced from renewable energy. The BREEAM certification extends the list of sustainability accreditations at the WTC, which has held an EPA-U ‘A’ level energy label since 2010.

The World Trade Center is a landmark in the Beatrixkwartier prime office district of The Hague and offers flexible space concepts and services to large and smaller businesses, making it a frontrunner among competing locations in the region. In 2015, the Office Fund initiated several measures to further optimise WTC The Hague, including the renovation of the Plaza area, to make it a more attractive and dynamic business meeting place.

WTC The Hague joins a longer list of assets in the Bouwinvest Office Fund which acquired a BREEAM certification in 2016. Both the Nieuwe Vaart at the Arthur van Schendelstraat in the city of Utrecht and the World Trade Center in Rotterdam acquired a BREEAM “In Use Good” rating in the Asset category, while Centre Court in The Hague was rewarded with a BREEAM In Use “Very Good” score in the Asset category and a “Good” score in the Management category. These certificates are the result of Bouwinvest’s continual efforts to optimise its portfolio with future proof buildings.
