Dutch institutional investment manager Bouwinvest has strengthened its international real estate investments team, promoting Cathelijne Martin to Regional Manager Europe and appointing Robert Koot as Portfolio Manager Europe and North America.

Bouwinvest is to increase investments in third-party funds and listed property companies to boost the € 2.7 billion global portfolio it manages on behalf of the Dutch Construction Workers Pension Fund (bpfBouw). A total of €1.0 billion is available to invest from both net new money and maturing fund holdings over the next years.

Stephen Tross, Bouwinvest, Managing Director International Investments, said: “Bouwinvest’s international portfolio produced a stellar 19.5% investment return last year and we intend to build on that successful track record by investing larger stakes in fund managers and listed firms to give us more influence over their strategies, at the same time as allocating more capital outside of the Netherlands. To achieve that goal we need people with the right experience in the management team. Cathelijne Martin has earned her promotion as she previously managed part of the portfolio in Europe and the U.S. so intimately understands its investment dynamics. She replaces Jeroen Winkelman who will join TH Real Estate in London from September 1st. I like to thank Jeroen for managing and extending the European international investments of Bouwinvest and for his contributions to the company. I’d also like to warmly welcome Robert Koot to the international team as he steps over from his previous role as Head of Research and now has the opportunity to put the theory into international operational practice.”

Martin will be responsible for the management and the growth of Bouwinvest’s portfolio of investments in European non-listed real estate funds and also join the company’s Investment Committee and senior management team. Both Martin and Koot will assume their new roles from September 1st.
