Bouwinvest and Partners Launch Redevelopment of Amsterdam’s Historic Buildings in Olympic Stadium Area with Festive Kickoff

Bouwinvest, Peak Development, Lokhorst Bouw en Ontwikkeling and the City of Amsterdam have jointly opened the festive launch event for the renovation and expansion of the 100,000 sqm buildings ‘The Olympic Amsterdam 1931 & 1962’, paving the way for a wider transformation of Amsterdam’s Olympic Stadium area, in the southern part of the city, into a bustling neighbourhood.

Sander te Hoonte, CEO at Lokhorst said: “We will do everything we can to ensure all parties involved will look back with pride at the construction.” 

Upon completion of the project in 2018, these former Citroën buildings will offer more than 100,000 sqm of residential, office, retail and sports and entertainment space. The ambition of the cooperating parties is to initiate a wider transformation of the Olympic Stadium district into a lively hotspot centred around sports, mobility and innovation. This initiative dubbed “Aim Higher” strives to put the Olympic Stadium district on the map, both within Amsterdam and beyond. 

Olympic ice skating champion Jochem Uytdehaage, who opened the festivities said: “It’s fantastic that this area around the Olympic Stadium is changing into a lively place where sports, mobility, innovation, arts and culture come together”. As a symbolic start of the construction, runners of the local athletics club Phanos handed the Olympic torch to Mr. Capel, the chairman of the borough of Amsterdam Zuid. 

Rijnboutt architects designed the plan for The Olympic 1962 and BiermanHenket is responsible for the renovation plan for The Olympic 1931. More information on the project can be found on www.theolympic.amsterdam.
