A strategy to increase the vibrancy and diversity of the retail mix in Het Eiland shopping centre in the historic centre of the north-east Dutch city of Zwolle by targeting independent retailers with distinctive offerings, has resulted in the successful leasing of six new stores totalling around 4,000 square metres of space, institutional real estate investment manager Bouwinvest said.

Het Eiland is part of the The Bouwinvest Retail Fund portfolio and the strategy aimed at attracting a broader range of consumers through enhancing the shopping experience at the centre, was implemented with partners Colliers International and Rodenburg Makelaars.

The shopping centre is located next to local landmark the Broeren Church with its Waanders bookstore and the area is known for its hosting of lively public events such as food festivals and open air concerts, which will be integrated into Het Eiland’s retail programme.

The new retailers include Pistache Mixstore (950 sqm) and Appel&Ei (235 sqm), a hip shop for second-hand fashion, shoes and accessories. Cosmonde (155 sqm), a shop annex to a beauty salon with quality perfumes and cosmetics, opened in May 2016. In June 2016, the atmospheric LEV Fashion (112 sqm) opened its doors.

In coming weeks, openings are also planned for the multi-brand store Toff Kidswear (240 sqm) and Speeleiland Zwolle (915 sqm), a new toy and games experience.

Alongside these new tenants, Bouwinvest has also signed a multi-year contract with the new owner of Perry Sport for circa 1,400 sqm on the second floor.

There are still a few units available in Het Eiland. The shopping spaces in this complex are high quality retail units with good size frontages, floor areas and ceiling heights. Other stores include: Van Limbeek Licht & Design, Mooiste Meubelen, US Candles, Plato, Qinn, Siebel, New My Com en D-Reizen.
